All About Blood Orange
As the primary orange of Italy, the blood orange has been cultivated for consumption since the 18th Century.
High levels of anthocyanins gives the orange its characteristic maroon flesh. The orange is sensitive to low temperatures and develops its colorful flesh throughout the night.
Fruit fact...
Contrary to popular opinion the blood orange is of no relation to the pomegranate and originated as a mutation of the sweet orange.
