All About Cherry (Sweet)
Latin name : Prunus avium
The cherry is named after the Turkish town of Cerasus and has been consumed since 300 B.C. The sweet cherry is known for its sweet taste and eaten both fresh and processed.
The sweetness of the processed fruit is widely used to enhance the flavours of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, desserts, confectionary and baked goods.

Sweet cherry trees only begin to produce fruit about five years after planting. It takes approximately ten to fifteen years for a sweet cherry tree to reach its full fruit bearing capacity.
