There are three basic varieties of fig: caducous figs, persistent figs and intermediate figs, all of which are thought to be native to the Middle East.

Providing an excellent source of iron, calcium and phosphorus the fig is used for wide range of applications inclusing cake flavouring, ice-cream and syrups.
