Latin name Passiflora edulis Sims
The passion flower is believed to be native to Brazil. It is extensively commercially cultivated in warm frost free climates for its delectable fruit. There are two types of passion fruit. Both the golden passion fruit and the dark purple passion fruit are marketed globally.
The passion fruit’s name derives from the fact that the passion flower resembles different symbols of Christ’s Crucifixion.
