Latin name Ananas comusus (l) Merr

The pineapple plant is indigenous to South America and is believed to have originated from either Southern Brazil or Paraguay. The sweet-sour taste of the pineapple makes it a popular fruit globally. Eaten fresh, juiced or canned in syrup the pineapple provides an excellent source of manganese and vitamin C.
