Carla puts the passion into credit control

We caught up with our Credit Controller, Carla Knowles, recently to find out what goes on in her department here at Cobell and all about her world.

Carla told us: “My job entails approval of all new customer accounts, credit management in respect of setting, maintaining and ensuring all credit limits are adhered to, as well as being regularly reviewed, to enable further company growth.

“Setting out credit terms and ensuring all the money owed to Cobell comes in on time and in full is also part of my remit to ensure the company does not become exposed to any bad debt.”

The 26-year-old, who hails from Exeter, previously worked at Ernest Jackson, part of Cadbury/Kraft Group, as a credit controller. Carla left school at 16 and worked for her mother, Sue, at Universal Office Supplies as a junior office assistant, where she climbed the career ladder.

“There is never really a quiet or slow moment here at Cobell, it is very intense at times and you’re forever jumping from one thing to another, trying to cover all areas and ensuring all customers are up kept up to date and satisfied with their accounts.

“I have a lot of passion for my job – credit control and credit management is definitely my calling. I am also a member of the Chartered Institute of Credit Management (CICM) and I am currently in the middle of my studies to complete a diploma in Credit Management, gaining the letters ACICM after my name. Exciting times!”

But it’s not all work for Carla, she is a single-mum to her son, Marley, who started school last September (2017).

“In my spare time, you will find me running aground after my gorgeous little boy and our two dogs, Louis and Ted, enjoying life to the full, creating memories and never sitting still while trying to balance work and mum life. I often wonder how it all works, but it does very well!

“I also love watching my son attend his drama school and take part in theatre plays. If I have a spare five minutes, I enjoy socialising with my friends and singing and dancing. I also go for the occasional jog to try and keep fit.”
